Inspiring Style -
June 2008
Summer is here, I hope; and so is one of the busiest
social seasons. It is time to strip off those winter layers and get into
something lighter and brighter. I am just so grateful that the Maxi dresses
are back in fashion, as I have not had enough sunshine to expose my legs
to the world, yet.
The Maxi dresses
were first in fashion in the 70ties, so some of you might even have some
hiding in a loft somewhere. These dramatic dresses don’t work with
tiny accessories so you need to find cocktail rings, bangles, (the chunkier
the better) and necklaces that would make any tribal member envious. The
Maxi dresses are very accommodating when it comes to footwear. You can
go for a very high wedge or depending on your pain threshold for high
heels, flat sandals. Both work so there’s no excuse for wearing
your husband’s shoes home after a long day/night out.
These sweeping long dresses have only one down side, dirty hems! Talking
of dirty hems, if you don’t fancy bruising your credit card on new
dresses, have another good look in your closet. You might find a few dresses
that kind of have had their day, due to dirty or worn hems, embellishment
that is starting to fall off etc. If the dress offers a nice fit and you
still like the colour, why not shorten it? If it is a long dress, shorten
it to knee height, if it is short maybe it can be turned into a tunic
(or shorter) length to be worn with a pair of light summer trousers. It
could give you an excuse to hit the shoe shop and maybe free up the budget
to do so.
