Holiday
Wear - July 2008
Most of us dream of effortless style, just being able
to pull anything marvellous out of our wardrobe, that like a fairy godmother,
will make us look our best in no time, with no effort involved.
Sorry ladies, but working as a personal stylist I can assure you that
there is no such thing as effortless style. It is however a matter of
knowing where and when to put in the effort. It will always be before
the clothes have made their way to your home and wardrobe.
A situation that well sums this up is getting the holiday wardrobe together.
One that enables you to feel well dressed in all situations of a relaxing
holiday. Most of us would take the whole wardrobe and still not feel that
we have enough.
Don’t be afraid to use laundry services whilst away, it saves you
a lot of hassle and gets more wear out of the items.
Here are a few suggestions on how to get a smart and practical holiday
wardrobe.
A pair of white trousers is a must. Denim, cotton or linen that’s
up to you, it is the length of them that entails the elegance, not necessarily
the fabric.

No
crops I’m afraid they are not elegant at all and certainly not versatile.
White long trousers can be worn with a t-shirt or striped top, a pair
of canvas shoes and you have a very casual maritime look, practical for
walking, visiting museums etc. The same pair of trousers can be worn as
an evening outfit with a pair of high heels, a chiffon blouse and accessories.
This combination of casual and smart can be achieved with a knee length
skirt, denim or cotton, pencil or flared, worn with casual t-shirts and/or
smarter tops.
Patterns are great, but make sure you have a one coloured dress in you
luggage. It is very versatile. Worn with sandals, flip-flops, canvas or
high heels the dress will look different depending on the style you set
it in.
Travelling light can be very rewarding and as my Italian masters always
said; Simplicity is true elegance.
